That’s why we are thrilled to share our recently announced Christmas party theme for 2018 – the Prohibition Era. Join us at Goosedale for a night of 1920s revelry, celebrating everything gangster with a fantastic array of swing and jazz music.
On arrival, you’ll be whisked away to our Grand Memorabilia Crystal Hall by a mob of gangsters where you can choose from a selection of cocktails, served secretly in teacups. Take part in an exciting Gangster Meet and Greet or visit the Silent Cinema, where you can see all the big names of the 20s up on the big screen. We’ve even got nightly prizes available for the best-dressed attendees!
Taking place during the 1920s in the United States, the Prohibition was a time where the making, moving, buying or selling of alcohol was prohibited. It was only during the late 1920s that the notorious American gangsters were able to gain control of spirit and beer supplies, distributing them to various Speakeasies (a type of illicit establishment that illegally sold, produced or imported alcohol) around the country. The prohibition finally came to an end in 1933 when the Twenty-First Amendment was passed, although a few states did continue state-wide prohibition for a short time after this.
The Prohibition Era brought with it a huge variation in jazz styles as musicians travelled from New Orleans, north to Chicago and New York. In addition, it also changed the way drinking establishments operated as they became more welcoming to both men and women.
